THEORIES OF ASIAN ARCHITECTURE
PROJECT 1 - READING THE CONTEXT OF TRADITIONAL ARCHITECTURE
In this assessment, we were required to conduct a study on the traditional streets of Malaysia. We were given options to choose from the streets of Malacca and Kuala Lumpur. Based on the selected streets, we had to identify its physical contexts( Religious Buildings, Shophouses, Market and Architecture façade and styles) and non physical context (Traditional trades/businesses, local/traditional cuisines, historical events and social institutions) of the street.
Through this assessment I learnt about traditional architecture and culture of the street. The reference of our senior given by our tutor helped me alot to get a better understanding on how to compile my work and drawings. Other resources like Google maps, Wikipedia and other different articles has helped me in doing my project.
PROJECT 2 - INFOGRAPHIC
In this assessment we were assigned to produce an infographic. We were given options to choose from the topics given. Based on the selected topic we had to produce an infographic which would reflect our understanding on the particular topic we chose which will include design thinking, building typology spatial layout concept and construction process and materials.
Through this project I developed a better understanding on vernacular malay architecture. My findings were mainly based on the lecture handout and some from external sources like articles.
PROJECT 3 - RESEARCH IN ASIAN ARCHITECTURE
It was a group project where we were asked to select a street from project 1 and conduct a research study based on that. We were supposed to choose a direction, discuss issues and make a detailed research to come up with case study. We were asked to make a research poster and a video presentation for this project.
Through this project we could interpret the significant issues and get knowledge on how can these be resolved.
REFLECTION
In this module I feel I got a better understanding on Asian Architecture. I gained better knowledge on the difference between traditional and vernacular architecture. Although the module was conducted online, I enjoyed doing it. My tutor was very patient and always ready to answer all our questions. All three projects helped me get a better understanding of this field. Additionally, the feedback given by tutor. Mr. Nicholas helped me to improve and encouraged me to work harder.
