ARCHITECTURE & ENVIRONMENT
CASE STUDY
LIGHTING
The purpose of this case study is to identify how light affects the building. To carry out this study the lux reading were recorded at different time of the day using mobile application. The daylight reading entering the room were recorded at 9 am, 2pm and 6pm. And one set of readings were recorded with the artificial light switched on at night. After the datas were recorded we made contour. We did our analysis and found solutions to our problems.
SHADING
The purpose of this case study is to identify the strategies of optimizing the temperature, ventilation and humidity of a space to design a building that utilizes natural lighting and ventilation which could minimize the usage of electricity. To carry out this study, the temperature and humidity were taken between 6am to 12 am for an 18 hour period with the use of mobile application. Wind speed (m/s) was measured in conditions window open and fan off, window closed and fan on, finally window closed and fan off. We did our analysis and found the solution to our problem.
Reflection
In this module i feel I got a better understanding on how climate is associated with architecture. I gained knowledge about designs that help with environment. I have learned about the passive design, sustainability and how renewable resources can be used in architecture. Although the module was conducted online, I enjoyed doing it. The tutors were patient and always ready to answer all our questions. The projects helped me get a better understanding of this field. Additionally, the feedback given my tutor, Mr. Edwin helped me to improve and encouraged me to work harder.
