PROJECT 1A

The project brief focuses on "Re-imagining the City's Third Place" in Johor Bahru City Centre (JBCC). The aim is to create an urban hub that serves as a catalyst for social sustainability, providing a civic building and public space for social interaction, recreation, and cultural activities. The project involves conducting comprehensive site investigations, analyzing the site using relevant literature, exploring precedents, and defining programs that align with the community's needs. The emphasis is on creating a "third place" where people can gather outside of home and work, fostering a sense of community.

Objectives

  • Conduct a comprehensive study of the site to understand the current conditions and develop a strategy that aligns with the project's goals.

PROJECT 1 (B)

The project aims to design an Urban Room/City Hub as a "Third Place" that fosters social and cultural interactions, aligning with the UN's Sustainable Development Goals. Students will explore and refine their design proposals by focusing on functionality, spatial quality, and inclusivity. The goal is to create a welcoming, accessible space that enhances the urban environment while complying with relevant regulations.
 

Objectives:

  • Thoroughly explore the project brief to set design parameters.

  • Develop an exploratory design strategy.

  • Produce a well-optimized final design.

PROJECT 1 (C)

The project brief focuses on finalizing the design scheme for the Urban Room project, emphasizing environmental and technological strategies. Students are expected to integrate input from lectures on topics like poetics, sustainability, building safety, and aesthetics. The design should enhance both the functional and experiential qualities of the building, demonstrating critical thinking, structural sense, and sensitivity to environmental issues. The final deliverables include a comprehensive design presentation and report that align with the project's objectives.
